i had to install the latest ie because some other application required it, but it changed the association of .url file types on my win98se system. i deleted the existing "internet shortcut" and tried to create an association for url file types to my netscape application for "open" action: c:\util\netscape\netscape\netscp.exe -url "%1" but now it pops up a dialog box with: "downloading xxx.url" you have chosen to download a file type: application/octet-stream from c:\direcotry what should netscape do with this file? open using netscp.exe save this file to disk help!!! how do i fix this? is there a automatic way to change all the file associations to netscape? i'm still on 7.02 if it matters... tia

my default home page url is continually being changed to a url i do not recognize. one this happens, i am unable to make internet connections. i have to reset the default url and restart my computer (windows xp home edition) several times in order to clear the problem. and, of course, it inevitably happens again thereafter. i don't know enough about xp to find the program which is substituting this unwanted url, so i'm not sure how to find and fix the problem for good. can anyone suggest how i might solve this problem? thanks

debian sarge emacs 21.4.1 browse-url works fine if firefox is already running. but suppose firefox isn't running. if i do 'm-x browse-url' and fill in the url, then firefox pops up for a second and then disappears. the same thing happens with links i click on in emacs. i think i can imagine a shell script to deal with this, but surely there is something alread in emacs. -- hugh lawson hlaw...@triad.rr.com

url: http://valsignalandet.com/cookiegrab.php?name=validentifier this page produces a cookie value and sends it back as html using php and javascript to obtain it. this url will be used as the value for a urlconnection object in a java class to obtain the results of this page to get, of all things, a cookie value. simply put: it's the only way i know of where i can use java to ultimately obtain a cookie since this is an application class (not a servlet) that has to obtain a cookie from your own machine and retrieve its value. the class itself works except that it obtains all of the html tags and not the body content itself:
